How an ancient amphitheatre functions as a modern cultural venue, with a dated guide to programmes, event-day access and where to verify the latest calendar.

A living venue

Pula Arena is not managed as a frozen archaeological object. Its modern identity includes concerts, film screenings, performances and special programmes. That continuity is part of the monument’s contemporary story: a structure created for mass spectatorship remains a place where thousands gather.

The 2026 programme

The official 2026 programme included major concerts and performances across June, July and August, with artists and productions such as Lenny Kravitz, David Byrne, John Legend, Moby, Kraftwerk, Sting, Nick Cave, Lorde and others. Because schedules change, this guide treats event listings as dated information rather than permanent content.

Visiting on an event day

An event can reduce normal sightseeing hours or change which parts of the monument are accessible. Sound checks, staging and equipment movement can also occur during public hours. If the Arena itself is your main reason for visiting Pula, check the official schedule first.

Use the Arena as a starting point

Event visitors often see only the amphitheatre at night. The stronger trip is to combine the Arena with the Forum, Temple of Augustus, Arch of the Sergii and Pula’s historic centre before the performance.

Source discipline

Time-sensitive visitor information is dated and linked to the official Arena Pula / Archaeological Museum of Istria pages. Historical dimensions and monument facts are based primarily on museum documentation and the Croatian Encyclopedia.
